Oncology | To Fight With Breast Cancer


Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women and is also the second most common cause of death .Because of its high frequency it has always been a source of severe distress to the patient. So it is better to examine your breast yourself as it will help to diagnose the disease at early stage, and it is more likely to be cured. Not every cancer can be found this way, but it is a critical step one can and should take for themselves. No woman wants to do a breast self-exam [BSE] but it is the best way of taking care yourself and reducing your risk of breast cancer. Make sure to do breast self-examination once a month and familiarize yourself with how your breasts normally look and feel. Don’t panic if you feel a lump. Most women have lumpy areas in their breasts all the time. Breast cancer is extremely rare in teens. In fact, among teen girls, the breast lump is usually related to normal breast growth and development.


If you feel a lump in your breast, at once contact your doctor to see if you comprise fibrocystic breast alteration or other breast tribulations that may create it difficult to perform a good BSE, your doctor can help.


Infections can be reason of breast lumps, since can harm to the breast. If you find any kind of changes in your breast size don’t take it lightly and visit your nearest health center as soon as possible.


Four out of six breast lumps that are removed are benign, non cancerous. The aim of screening exams for early breast cancer detection is to find cancers before they start to cause symptoms. The size of a breast cancer and how far it has spread are some of the most important factors in predicting the disease.


Risk of developing breast cancer increases a women get older. About 1 out of 10 breast cancers are found in women younger than 45.


Women whose close relatives have breast cancer have a higher risk for this disease, Though the exact risk is not known, women with a family history of breast cancer also have an increased risk of breast cancer.


White women are more prone to this disease than are African-American women; because African-American women have more aggressive tumors, although the reason for this is not known.


Some easy steps to do your breast self-exam:-

1. Begin by looking at your breasts in the mirror with your shoulders straight and your arms on your hips. Know what is normal for you-breast do feel thick and lumpy. Doing regular BSE will help you become more comfortable and confident. If you see any of the following changes consult your doctor:

a. Redness, rash or swelling.

b. Dimpling, puckering or bulging.


2. Then look at yourself from different angles and arm positions. Put your hands on your hips and lean forward.


3. The next part is how your breasts feel. Put your hand over your breasts and feel for unusual lumps, bumps, thickenings or pain that hasn’t been there before.


4. Look for any signs of fluid coming out of one or both nipples.


5. Next feel your breast while lying down. Feel your breasts laying down on your back and laying down on your side. Look for any unusual lumps on your breast, look for a change in color of your skin, and look for a change in the way your nipple is pointing.


The easiest way to feel your breast is while you are bathing, most women find it the easiest-not only is it convenient, but the soap can help you move your hands easily over your breasts.


It’s convenient to feel your breast with different level of pressure like—light, medium, and firm—to feel each part of your breast. This will help you to feel the various layers of tissue in the breast. Start with light pressure, increase to medium pressure, and finish with firm pressure to feel the deepest tissue. When you have checked your entire breast, use your finger and thumb to gently squeeze your nipple, watching for any discharge. Then put your left arm behind your head and check your left breast the same way.


The goal of a BSE is for you to get used to the way your breasts feel. The better you know your body the better you feel. BSE is for your own good only.
